Again I tell you, if two of you on earth
agree about whatever they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by
My Father in heaven.
For wherever two or three are gathered in My
name, there I AM in the midst of them Matthew 18: 19, 20
Prayer is powerful. Prayer changes things.
When two agree in prayer I have found that the prayer is full of even more
power.
In Ecclesiastes 4:12 we read; A person
standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and
conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
So if you and I agree in prayer, God is there
with us. That means that we now have even more power in the prayer. Together
you and I come into covenant agreement with God regarding the thing we are praying
about. God doesn't come out of covenant agreement into we receive answer to our
prayer. You, God and me are forming "a triple-braided cord" so strong
it cannot be broken!
In fact the covenant agreement is so strong
that it will last forever. If we want out of that covenant we have to pray for
God to release us from it.
One time I wanted to buy a home. I prayed
over that house and came into covenant agreement that the house would be mine,
with a prayer partner. I was blessed with the house and praised God for it.
Through a nasty divorce my ex-husband and his girlfriend took the house from
me. Time went on and they decided to sell the house. Guess what? It wasn't
selling. They had remodeled it from top to bottom and still it wouldn't sell.
I needed my part of the money from that sell.
I asked God, "Why isn't that house selling?" Finally after some time
of praying about it, God reminded me that He and I had come into covenant
agreement regarding that house being mine. God was still standing in that
agreement. I prayed and asked God to release me from that agreement, and in a
couple of months the house finally sold.
I share that with you to let you know how
strongly God feels about "covenant" agreements.
When you look for a prayer partner you must
be very careful. That prayer partner needs to be a man or woman who spends a
lot of time in prayer with God. How do you know? Listen to them pray. I can
always tell a lot about a person's relationship with God by the way they pray.
When you pray with someone both you and the
other person need to not be participating in anything that you know is a sin.
Open rebellion to the will of God is one reason why some folks don't get
prayers answered. Sometimes a person, whom I know is backslidden, will write me
to agree with them for something in prayer. God will not answer our prayers,
Beloved, until we repent of known sin and determine not to "go there"
again, with the help of the Holy Spirit.
The next thing to consider is how your prayer
request lines up with the Word. I once had a woman asked me to pray that her
boyfriend would leave his wife and they could be married. She "just
knew" that the Lord wanted them to be together. She never spoke to me
again, after I told her that it wasn't scriptural in any way and God would not
answer that prayer for her. It's
amazing how Satan can delude, even a Christian, into sin. If the bible tells us
"Thou shall not commit adultery, " why in the world do we think God
would answer a prayer that goes against His Word?
I, personally, have a couple of sisters in
Christ that I love to pray with because they love me in the Lord, as I do them.
We only desire the best for each other. The prayers of agreement are so strong
when I pray with these women; I can actually feel the presence of God with us.
So make sure that you come into agreement with someone whom you trust not to
gossip about your prayer request.
The most important thing about getting a
prayer answered is to pray in total faith that God can, and will answer your
prayer. We read in Mark 11:24 "Therefore I
tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it,
and it will be yours."
God never lies, lying is not in
Him. Therefore we can have faith
that He will answer our prayers. Read the following scripture, write it down
and look at it often. "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that
the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name,
and I will do it" (John 14:13-14).
